Peyote has been a sacrament among native people for over 6000 years. It lends a person access to their spiritual and Earthly connections.  In southwestern Native American tales, Coyote is often presented as the trickster. Peyote also plays the spiritual trickster, leading us towards the light of consciousness, which is why we often portray the peyote dancing. The snake is also a familiar companion in the southwestern desert and serves humans as killer of rodents and protector of sacred peyote gardens.
